Environmentally Conscious, Handcrafted Funeral Goods

Our collective members design and make funeral vessels and products from responsibly sourced native materials using time honored techniques.

Who We Are

We are cottage artists and craftspeople dedicated to making eco-friendly vessels for use in natural burial spaces. Our work is one of a kind, as unique as the person they are built to hold.

What We Offer

Funerary artisans make and sell caskets, shrouds, urns, trays, and other specialty items for natural burial. Makers welcome requests for custom-made vessels in addition to products already in stock.

Find An Artist

Whether you are looking for vessels nearby or looking for specific types of goods, you can find a funerary maker by going to the product or artist page for more information.

Our Environmental and Social Commitment

Whenever feasible, our products are made from locally sourced, native-grown materials. We start with cotton, wool, flax linen, soft woods, bamboo, willow, and seagrass, or found materials such as twigs and bark. Because some resources are not natively grown everywhere, sourcing responsibly is important to us. Partnerships with growers and importers who have a shared goal of providing clean, low footprint materials is essential. Many of our artists and craftspeople are experimenting with growing and processing as much of their own raw material as possible.

Artisans owe it to consumers to be as transparent about their processes as possible. This includes use of labor not their own, incidental carbon footprint, or any information that might impact the purchaser. The Collective stands for equal access to funerary goods for all, encouraging members to offer creative pricing options so as to be as inclusive as possible. Our members are proponents of environmental justice as well by providing natural products with which to bury loved ones in natural cemeteries that create opportunities for better and more equitable access to nature.

The Funerary Artisans Collective is a group of funeral goods artists and craftspeople who choose to exhibit their work on this site. This website is intended for consumer education only. It is not intended to endorse. All exhibitors participate as independent free agents responsible for the quality and availability of their own products; their work is not juried. All purchases are between the individual artist and the consumer. The Collective is not responsible for transactions or communications between members and consumers.
