In my career, I have often come across the mentality of what are the "best" materials, the "quickest" way, what is "your bottom line" way of approaching building and creating.  But this mentality has long allowed us to not look or connect to our local environments, and ignore the impact we have at home and abroad. But what if we can be part of a community dedicated to pursuing different resources that thrive locally, are aesthetically pleasing, and fulfill structural and creative needs, all while pursuing sustainable and regenerative land practices? What if we could give people options so that their choices in death reflected their choices in life?  IndiaWest Craft aims to be part of that community and uses locally sourced materials to build authentic custom vessels from caskets to kayaks, as well as having 5+ acre polyculture dedicated to growing willow and other materials.  I see the caskets I create as crafts, much like the boats I build, vessels that will carry us from our lives to the earth, rooted in both utility and artistry and deeply connected to the environment in which they exist.
